Jyotishmati, scientifically known as Celastrus paniculatus Wild (Celastraceae) is one of the most important medicinal plants in Ayurveda. The plant has shown significant pharmacological activities like anti-arthritic, wound healing, hypolipidemic, and antioxidant.Celastrus paniculatus seeds have significant antinociceptive and anti-inflammatory activity.It is a well-known Ayurvedic Medhya Rasayana‟ (nervine tonic), used extensively as a neuro-protective and memory enhancer, and in different central nervous system disorders.- Convolvulus pluricaulis Choisy (C. pluricaulis) is a perennial herb that seems like morning glory. All parts of the herb are known to possess therapeutic benefits. The plant is used locally in Indian and Chinese medicine to cure various diseases. It is used in Ayurvedic formulation for chronic cough, sleeplessness, epilepsy, hallucinations, anxiety etc. The herb induces a feeling of calm and peace, good sleep and a relief in anxiety, stresses, mental fatigue, producing a significant reduction in the level of anxiety, neuroticism arising due to various levels of stresses. The herb appears to produce its action by modulation of neurochemistry of the brainIndian system of medicine has traditionally been used in several neurological conditions like Alzheimer, Epilepsy, Parkinsonism, and Schizophrenia.-Bacopa monnieri, popularly known as Brahmi, has been traditionally used in Ayurveda since ages for its memory enhancing properties.It has been used in Ayurveda since 500 AD as “Medhya Rasayana” for treatment of anxiety, poor memory, and epilepsy, improvement of cognitive processes, comprehension, memory, and recall. It is currently promoted as a brain tonic and many formulations are available. Its antioxidant property, which is about half potent to that of vitamin E on weight basis, is thought to be responsible for its antistress, immunomodulatory, cognition facilitatory, anti-inflammatory, and antiageing effect. -Mucuna pruriens (Fabaceae) is an established herbal drug used for the management of male infertility, nervous disorders, and also as an aphrodisiac. It has been shown that its seeds are potentially of substantial medicinal importance. The ancient Indian medical system, Ayurveda, traditionally used M. pruriens, even to treat such things as Parkinson's disease. M. pruriens has been shown to have anti-parkinson and neuroprotective effects, which may be related to its anti-oxidant activity. In addition, anti-oxidant activity of M. pruriens has been also demonstrated in vitroby its ability to scavenge DPPH radicals and reactive oxygen species.-Centella asiatica (CA), a clonal, perennial herbaceous creeper belonging to the family Umbellifere (Apiceae) is widely used as a blood purifier as well as for treating high blood pressure, for memory enhancement and promoting longevity. In Ayurveda, CA is one of the main herbs for revitalizing the nerves and brain cells. Eastern healers relied on CA to treat emotional disorders, such as depression, that were thought to be rooted in physical problems. CA is known to re-vitalize the brain and nervous system, increase attention span and concentration and combat aging.
